Amazon Vine

Amazon Vine defined: The review program
Amazon Vine is a review program in which selected, trusted reviewers (“Vine Voices”) receive free products and, in return, leave honest reviews. The Amazon Vine program is the only officially Amazon-sanctioned way to provide products in exchange for reviews.
Vine Voices are chosen by Amazon based on their review history – they have built a strong reputation through helpful, detailed reviews. Their Amazon Vine reviews are marked with a special “Vine Customer Review of Free Product” badge to ensure full transparency.
Why are reviews so important?
Studies show that products with meaningful reviews lift the conversion rate by up to 30%. Especially for new products, those first reviews are decisive for building trust with potential buyers.

How does Amazon Vine work?
The process is comparatively simple for sellers:
- 1. Enroll the product: In Seller Central under “Advertising” → “Vine,” enter the ASIN and the desired number of units (max. 30 units)
- 2. Provide inventory: The products are shipped to Vine Voices from your FBA stock
- 3. Vine Voices choose: Interested reviewers order the product for free
- 4. Leave a review: After receiving the product, reviewers have time to write an honest review
Important to understand:
- Vine Voices receive no money – only the product
- There is no obligation to leave positive reviews
- You have no contact with the reviewers
- Reviews can be positive, neutral, or negative
Costs and pricing structure
Amazon Vine has a tiered pricing structure based on the number of units enrolled:
| Tier | Units | Cost | Max. reviews |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tier 1 | 1-2 units | $0 | Up to 2 |
| Tier 2 | 3-10 units | $70 | Up to 10 |
| Tier 3 | 11-30 units | $170 | Up to 30 |
Additional costs: You bear the product cost for the units you give away. For a product with a $20 cost of goods and 30 Vine units, that works out to: $170 Vine fee + $600 product cost = $770 total cost for up to 30 reviews.
Requirements for participation
Not every product can be enrolled in Vine. These criteria have to be met:
Brand registration
Your brand must be enrolled in the Amazon Brand Registry.
Fewer than 30 reviews
The product may not already have more than 30 reviews on its product detail page. Vine is intended for new products.
FBA fulfillment
The product must be available in “New” condition via Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA).
Active listing
The product must have an active, buyable listing with an image, title, and description.

Frequently asked questions (FAQ)
Can I have negative Vine reviews removed?
No, Vine reviews are subject to the same rules as ordinary reviews. They can only be removed if they violate Amazon's policies (insults, wrong product reference, etc.). A poor opinion of the product is not grounds for removal.
How long does it take for reviews to appear?
After receiving the product, Vine Voices typically have a few weeks to write a review. Most reviews appear within 2-4 weeks. There is, however, no guarantee that all reviewers will leave a review.
Is Vine worth it for every product?
Not necessarily. For very low-priced products (< $10), the cost per review is often too high. For premium products with high margins, it tends to pay off. Calculate: product cost + prorated Vine fee = cost per review. Is a review worth that much to you?
Are there alternatives to Vine?
The only legal alternative is to wait for organic reviews and to encourage customers to leave feedback through excellent service and follow-up emails (via Amazon). Paid reviews or incentives are prohibited and lead to account suspensions.
