Buy Box Suppression

Last updated: February 17, 2026

What is Buy Box suppression?

Buy Box suppression means that Amazon completely suppresses the Buy Box for a product. In this case there is no “Add to Cart” button on the product page – no seller can win the Buy Box, because it simply does not exist.

Instead, customers only see a “See All Buying Options” link that leads to a list of every offer. This is a drastic intervention on Amazon's part that significantly lowers the conversion rate, because customers have to make an extra click. A suppressed Buy Box (often searched for as “no Buy Box on Amazon”) is one of the most damaging issues a listing can face.

Difference: Suppression vs. no Buy Box

It is important to distinguish between two different situations that are often confused.

Buy Box suppression

  • • The Buy Box does not exist
  • • No seller can win it
  • • The problem lies with the product/listing
  • • Amazon has actively suppressed it

No Buy Box (for you)

  • • The Buy Box exists
  • • Another seller has it
  • • The problem lies with your performance
  • • See Buy Box Relevance

Common causes of suppression

Amazon suppresses the Buy Box when certain criteria are not met or violations are present.

  • 1.Price parity violation (MRP/MSRP): The price is above the manufacturer's suggested retail price without justification
  • 2.Missing or incorrect UPC/EAN: The listing has no valid product identifier
  • 3.Listing quality issues: Missing required attributes, incomplete product information
  • 4.Authenticity concerns: Suspicion of counterfeit or non-compliant products
  • 5.Customer feedback: Too many negative reviews pointing to quality problems
  • 6.No Prime-eligible offer: In some categories Prime is mandatory for the Buy Box

Impact on your business

Buy Box suppression has serious consequences for your Amazon business.

  • No advertising possible: Sponsored Products cannot be served
  • Drastic revenue drop: Without a direct “Buy” button, conversion falls sharply
  • Ranking loss: Fewer sales lead to worse organic rankings
  • Loss of trust: Customers may read the missing purchase field as a negative signal

Important: Buy Box suppression should be addressed immediately. The longer it lasts, the more ranking and sales history you lose.

How to win the Buy Box back

The solution depends on the cause of the suppression. Here are the most important steps to win the Buy Box back.

1. Identify the cause

Check your Seller Central for warnings, policy violations, or performance notifications. The “Fix Listing” section often shows the specific problems.

2. Review your pricing

Make sure your price is not above the manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP). Compare against other marketplaces and competitors.

3. Complete the listing

Fill in all required fields, add a valid UPC/EAN, and optimize the product information according to Amazon's guidelines.

4. Contact Amazon

If the cause is unclear, open a case with Seller Support. Sometimes suppressions are triggered by mistake and have to be lifted manually.

Frequently asked questions (FAQ)

How long does it take for the Buy Box to come back?

After fixing the cause, it can take anywhere from a few hours to several days. For price-related suppressions, reactivation is often faster than for listing problems.

Can I still make sales despite suppression?

In theory, yes – if customers click “See All Buying Options” and select you there. In practice, however, sales drop dramatically, because this extra step deters many customers.

Does Buy Box suppression affect all sellers of a listing?

Yes, if the suppression happens at the listing level (e.g. a missing UPC), it affects every offer. For seller-specific problems, it may be that only your offer is not Buy Box eligible.
