Short answer

The HORAiZON ONE Amazon description editor is a free browser tool that turns text you format in a visual editor, or paste as HTML, into an Amazon product description with paragraphs (<p>), bold (<b>), bullet lists (<ul>, <li>) and line breaks (<br>), the same tags HORAiZON ONE publishes to Amazon, and checks it against the 2,000-character limit and Amazon's content rules.

A line breaks only mode covers Amazon's stricter written rule. The editor needs no account and does not store the text.

What HTML Amazon renders in the product description

Amazon's product detail page rules prohibit HTML, JavaScript and other code in detail pages and name one exception: "As a special case, you can use line breaks" in the description. In practice Amazon still renders a small set of formatting tags in the product description: <p>, <b>, <ul> with <li>, and <br>. HORAiZON ONE publishes descriptions with exactly these tags, and the editor produces the same set.

How the editor handles HTML tags in Amazon product descriptions
TagEditor outputNotes
<p>KeptOne paragraph. An empty line in plain text starts a new one
<b>, <strong>Kept as <b>Bold. **text** in plain text becomes bold too
<ul>, <li>KeptBullet list. Lines starting with - or • become list items
<ol>Converted to <ul>Numbered lists become bullet lists
<br> or <br />KeptNew line inside a paragraph. You choose the spelling
<h1> to <h6>ConvertedBecomes a bold paragraph
<i>, <em>, <u>, <span>, <font>, <div>Removed, text keptDivs become paragraphs
<a href>, URLsLink removed, flaggedLinks and web addresses are not allowed anywhere in the listing
style, class and other attributesRemovedAmazon ignores them and they cost characters

Because Amazon's written rule only names line breaks, the editor also has a line breaks only mode. It turns paragraphs into empty lines and list items into lines starting with • or –. Use it if formatting gets stripped in your category or a flat-file template expects plain text.

The 2,000-character limit counts the tags

The product description field holds 2,000 characters including spaces, and HTML tags count toward it. A <br> costs 4 characters, a paragraph (<p></p>) 7 and a list item (<li></li>) 9. A description with 10 paragraphs and an 8-item list spends about 150 characters on tags. A description over the limit is rejected; flat-file uploads report error 90117. The editor shows what Amazon counts, what a shopper reads and how much goes to tags. If a description is just over the limit, line breaks only mode saves characters.

A description structure that reads well on mobile

  • Opening paragraph: the main benefit in one sentence, the way a shopper would say it. Bold it if you like.
  • Two or three short paragraphs of two to three sentences each.
  • Hard facts as a bullet list: size, weight, material, compatibility.
  • One line for what is in the box, one for care or use instructions.
  • Bold for a few key words only, never whole paragraphs.
  • No prices, offers, shipping promises, guarantees, links or contact details.

Brand owners can replace the plain description with A+ Content, which allows images, comparison charts and, with Premium A+, video. For the keywords that matter for ranking, the title, bullet points and backend search terms carry more weight than the description.

How this editor compares

Clean-up, not only formatting buttons

Editors such as the SellerApp product description editor and the AMZ Data Studio HTML converter build formatting with buttons. The HORAiZON ONE editor also works the other way round: it takes HTML pasted from a shop system, Word or an old listing and removes what Amazon does not use, such as style and class attributes, spans, fonts, headings and links, keeping only <p>, <b>, lists and <br>.

Rule checks, not just formatting

Besides formatting, the editor flags what gets descriptions edited or removed: links, email addresses, phone numbers, promotional wording such as "free shipping" or "best seller", words in all caps and emojis. It also shows how many of the 2,000 characters the tags use.

Writing the description itself

The editor formats text you already have and uses the same tag set as HORAiZON ONE. HORAiZON ONE's AI product copy writes the description together with the title, bullet points and backend keywords from 5.4 million real Amazon search terms and publishes it through the SP-API after approval.

Amazon product description HTML: FAQ

Can I use HTML in an Amazon product description?

A small set. Amazon's written detail page rules ban HTML in detail pages and name line breaks as the exception. In practice Amazon still renders <p>, <b>, <ul>/<li> and <br> in the product description, and HORAiZON ONE publishes descriptions with these tags. Links, styles, scripts and other tags are not allowed. If formatting gets stripped in a category, use line breaks only.

How do I add a line break in an Amazon product description?

Type <br> (or <br />) where the new line should start, without spaces inside the tag. For a new paragraph, wrap the text in <p> and </p>. The HORAiZON ONE description editor does both: in its visual editor, Enter starts a paragraph and Shift+Enter a new line.

How many characters can an Amazon product description have?

An Amazon product description holds up to 2,000 characters including spaces, and HTML tags count toward that limit: each <br> uses 4 characters, each paragraph 7 and each list item 9. Longer descriptions are rejected; flat-file uploads return error 90117.

How do I make bullet points in an Amazon product description?

Use a <ul> list with one <li> per point; Amazon renders it as a bullet list in the description. In line breaks only mode, each point goes on its own line with <br> and starts with • or –. The editor builds either version from lines that start with a dash.

Why does my Amazon description show as one block of text?

Usually because the line breaks were typed as plain Enter presses, which Amazon ignores, or because the formatting was stripped. Paste the text into the editor, copy the cleaned version and update the listing. If it still shows as one block, switch the editor to line breaks only.

Is the HORAiZON ONE description editor free?

Yes. The editor is free, needs no account and processes the text in your browser without storing it. HORAiZON ONE, the AI platform behind it, can also write the description, title, bullet points and backend keywords for you.
