What is a Brand Story? Definition and meaning

A brand story is the narrative element of your brand identity that connects customers emotionally with your brand. It goes far beyond a simple company description and conveys your company's values, vision, and mission in a coherent, authentic narrative. In the context of Amazon, the Brand Story refers to a dedicated module within A+ Content that lets sellers present their brand story prominently on the product detail page.

The Amazon Brand Story is a powerful tool for registered brands to build trust and stand out from the competition. While product images and bullet points deliver the rational reasons to buy, brand storytelling speaks to the emotional side of the purchase decision. Studies show that customers are willing to pay more for products from brands whose story and values they can identify with.

Amazon Brand Story: Your brand story on the product page

The Amazon Brand Story is a dedicated A+ Content module that appears above the regular product descriptions and the standard A+ Content. Unlike other A+ modules, the Brand Story is displayed across your entire brand – it shows up automatically on all of your brand's product detail pages. That means you create your brand story once, and it is presented consistently across your entire product portfolio.

The Brand Story offers several card types that you can combine into a scrollable gallery:

Available Brand Story modules

  • 1.
Background card with brand logo: Shows your brand logo on a custom background image
  • 2.
About the brand: A large image with a text area for your brand message
  • 3.
Questions and answers: An FAQ format for answering common customer questions
  • 4.
ASIN showcase: Links to other products in your brand with an image and short text

Combining these modules creates a horizontal, scrollable presentation that guides customers through your brand story. The ASIN showcase cards are especially valuable, because they enable cross-selling and lead customers to other products in your range.

Creating Premium A+ Content: The advanced brand story

Premium A+ Content, also known as A++, gives you even more extensive options for telling your brand story. Unlike standard A+ Content, which is available to all registered brands, Premium A+ used to be available by invitation only. Today you can unlock access through brand building: publish a Brand Story and upload at least 15 A+ Content projects that have been approved by the Amazon moderation team.

Premium A+ Content transforms your product page into an immersive brand experience. The larger image formats, video integrations, and interactive elements let you demonstrate complex product features vividly and build emotional connections. Especially for high-priced products or items that need explanation, Premium A+ can significantly boost your conversion rate.

Best practices for your Amazon brand story

Authenticity and emotion

A convincing brand story begins with authenticity. Tell the real story behind your brand: Why was it founded? What problem did you set out to solve? What drives you? Customers quickly recognize whether a story is genuine or contrived. Personal elements such as founder photos, glimpses into production, or the origin story of individual products create closeness and trust.

Emotional anchor points are crucial: show not just what you sell, but what difference your products make in your customers' lives. An outdoor brand doesn't sell hiking boots – it sells adventure and experiences in nature. This emotional dimension is what separates an interchangeable product description from a memorable brand story.

Visual consistency

Your Brand Story should be visually in harmony with your entire brand presence. Use consistent colors, fonts, and image styles that run through all of your Amazon touchpoints – from product photography to A+ Content to Sponsored Brands ads. This visual coherence strengthens recognition and conveys professionalism.

Use high-resolution images (at least 1000x1000 pixels for most modules) and make the best use of the available space. Cluttered designs look unprofessional, while overly minimalist layouts miss the chance to tell your story. Find the balance between visual impact and clear communication.

Strategic product linking

Use the ASIN showcase cards strategically for cross-selling. Link to products that complement the current product or fit the same use case. A customer looking at a coffee mug may also be interested in thermos flasks or lunch boxes from the same brand.

The Brand Story is also an effective way to turn new customers into repeat customers. Show the breadth of your range and build a relationship that goes beyond the single purchase. A strong brand story increases the likelihood that customers will reach for your brand again on future purchases.

Frequently asked questions (FAQ)

What is the difference between Brand Story and A+ Content?

The Brand Story is a dedicated module within the A+ Content system. While regular A+ Content is created individually for each product and appears below the product description, the Brand Story is created once and displayed automatically on all of your brand's product pages. It appears above the regular A+ Content and focuses on the brand as a whole, not on individual products.

What are the requirements for an Amazon Brand Story?

To create a Brand Story, you must be enrolled in Amazon Brand Registry. That means you need a registered trademark and must have successfully verified it with Amazon. After registration, you can create and manage your Brand Story through the A+ Content Manager in Seller Central.

How do I get access to Premium A+ Content?

You can unlock Premium A+ Content through active brand building on Amazon. To qualify, you need to have a published Brand Story and at least 15 approved A+ Content projects uploaded. Once you meet these criteria, Premium A+ is unlocked for your brand.

Can I change my Brand Story later?

Yes, you can edit and update your Brand Story at any time in the A+ Content Manager. Changes go through the same approval process as the initial publication and, once approved, are automatically updated on all product pages. This lets you adapt your brand story seasonally or extend it with new product lines.

How does the Brand Story affect my conversion rate?

A well-designed Brand Story can significantly boost your conversion rate, because it builds trust and creates emotional reasons to buy. Amazon states that A+ Content overall can lead to conversion increases of 3-10%. The Brand Story contributes by strengthening brand perception and signaling a professional presence.
